New Year: New You- Let Acupuncture support your New Year’s Resolutions.

Now that the New Year has arrived, many people consider changes in their lives, otherwise known as New Year’s resolutions.

However well-intended, historically, these resolutions don’t work: research shows statistically 80-90% fail within 4 months.  They fail because people ask themselves to overcome negative habits based solely on a calendar change. If a resolution doesn’t have a strong personal commitment, backed by an effective support system, it is likely to fail.

The use of Acupuncture can provide the necessary support system to insure a successful outcome with any personal improvement including New Year’s Resolutions.

Which of the following scenarios pertain to you?
Reduce/stop alcohol consumption
Many people turn to alcohol to avoid dealing with negative aspects of their life.  Some examples could be loss of a loved one, guilt issues, difficulty with relationships or conflict with a family member. Once the decision is made to reduce or to stop alcohol consumption, it can be a daunting task to complete alone. Many people turn to acupuncture as their support system.  By treating a person’s imbalance, acupuncture can help a person discover and resolve the underlying issues leading to alcohol dependence. In turn this will lead to a reduction and/or elimination of the dependence on alcohol.  Through a series of acupuncture treatments, people can face the emotions they are avoiding and as the treatments progress, their desire to drink will slowly fade away.
Lose weight and/or get fit
Many people chose the New Year to start a weight loss program and or fitness regimen.  Often, they join a gym as part of this resolution. However, a manager at a gym once told me they sell more memberships in January than at any other time of the year and most of these memberships are not used after the first four months.  Just as the gym can be a temporary solution, so too can starting a new diet based solely 1) on the time of year or 2) to satisfy a temporary goal.  With excess weight gain, there are often emotional and addiction components involved.  Regular Acupuncture treatments of the Body, Mind and Spirit will strengthen this resolution by reducing food cravings and bringing the entire body back into balance, both emotionally and physically.
Quit smoking
Many people enjoy smoking as it can be a social activity, it can provide stress release and a burst of energy. Smoking is a difficult habit to break on your own as not only is it a personal habit but there are many addictive ingredients in tobacco, including nicotine.  Experts agree that often nicotine can be more addictive than heroin.  Unfortunately, this makes it difficult to stop without external support.  As a result, some of the most successful treatment centers utilize acupuncture as part of their protocols.  Acupuncture will reduce common complaints associated with quitting such as cravings, insomnia, jitters, irritability, anxiety, and depression.
Manage/reduce stress
Many people find modern living at times involves high levels of stress.  It can be related to work, commuting, friends and family, personal loss, difficult relationships, the holidays and financial difficulties.  A series of acupuncture treatments provide periods of relaxation and analysis, time for personal introspection that assists patients in eliminating the choices that caused the buildup of stress. An acupuncturist will choose points that reduce stress, relax the mind and bring the body, mind and spirit back into balance.
All in all acupuncture works. Don’t procrastinate any longer. Call to schedule an appointment with your Michael today.  Start the New Year with the support you need to become the new and improved you.
